Jazz Band is one of our staple ensembles that is for students who have a strong work ethic, strong playing skills, able to perform under pressure, and not afraid to improvise! We perform many concerts in the district and in public throughout the school year. This ensemble is auditioned at the end of the seventh grade year. Students that are eligible to audition must complete 7th grade Concert Band at Frost M.S.
Expectations as a member of the ensemble:
· Students who are accepted into the Frost Jazz Band are also members of the Frost Symphonic Band.
· Jazz Band students will rehearse jazz 2 days a week and Symphonic Band literature with the full Symphonic Band 3 days a week.*Depends on schedule
· Since instrumentation is limited in a jazz band, within each section most parts are played by one individual. Therefore, attendance at every performance and practicing is crucial to the success of the ensemble.
· Students who do not keep up with their practicing or must miss performances may be removed from the ensemble at anytime.
· Private lessons are strongly encouraged for all students especially those playing drumset, guitar, bass, and piano.
*Students must be at all Jazz performances. If missed more than 2, the student will be removed from the ensemble, since it is an auditioned ensemble.

Here is what instrumentation we are looking for...
4 Alto Saxes
2 Tenor Saxes
1 Bari. Sax
4-5 Trombone/Baritones
